Vael is a journaling app that transforms your daily entries into fictional story chapters. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.
What we collect
- Journal entries you write in the app.
- Generated chapter content, character names, places, and chapter summaries derived from your entries.
- App settings: your chosen genre, reading theme, notification time, and protagonist profile (name, strength, struggle).
- A random device identifier (UUID) used for rate limiting. This is not linked to your Apple ID or personal identity.
- Purchase status via RevenueCat (whether you have an active subscription). We do not see your payment details — Apple handles all billing.
How we use your data
- Your journal entries are sent to our server proxy, which forwards them to Anthropic (Claude AI) to generate your story chapter and extract character/place data. We do not store your entries on our server — the proxy forwards and discards.
- All journal entries, chapters, characters, places, and settings are stored locally on your device using an encrypted database. We cannot access this data.
- The device identifier is used solely for rate limiting (preventing abuse of the free tier). It is not used for tracking or advertising.
Anthropic's data handling
Your journal text is processed by Anthropic's Claude AI to generate chapters. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train their models. See Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy for details.
What we do NOT do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not show ads.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not collect your name, email, phone number, location, or any personal identifiers.
